Community Traffic Safety Update

Montroyal Traffic safety update
At long last, we've received the report from DNV Engineering—and it looks fantastic! Here's a summary of what DNV will be doing (with timing/approval dates in brackets):
  1. Temporarily closing the Prospect to Montroyal trail that runs adjacent to MacKay Creek. (To be re-opened after the MacKay Creek Bridge is replaced in 2021.)
  2. Adding SLOW pavement markings on Prospect between Cliffridge and Capilano. (2019)
  3. New crosswalk and pedestrian-controlled light at Prospect and Capilano. (2019)
  4. New crosswalk and lighting improvements at Clements and Cliffridge. (2019)
  5. Sidewalk extensions from Cliffridge bus stop to Canyon, and along the south side of Montroyal from the Cliffridge crosswalk to Pheasant Place. (2020—pending Council approval)
  6. Other minor things like continuing to bring in the dynamic speed/message boards and trimming back vegetation. (Ongoing)
  7. Mackay Creek bridge replacement in 2021 which will then allow for:
    • Repositioning of the flashing lights to the east side of the intersection (This is something DNV will 'consider' later).
    • A sidewalk to connect the trail to Cliffridge, thus to the crosswalk.
    • Possible consideration of including two crosswalks at Cliffridge and Montroyal.
What we need from you
For now, we just have one small, but very important ask: let's give DNV some positive reinforcement by thanking them for what they've proposed.

Steve Carney (DNV engineer) and his team have worked hard to assess traffic patterns and needs in our area, and will continue to work with Council to get approvals for future improvements. Please send Steve and Council your messages of support and thanks: CarneyS@dnv.org and council@dnv.org

Your positive messages will go a long way to build goodwill with DNV and ensure they continue to work on our requested improvements.
