Traffic Safety Guidelines
As we head back to school, please ensure that you are familiar with our traffic safety rules. It is great when students can walk to school; however, we are aware that some students are coming from outside the catchment and need to drive to school.
We are very fortunate at Montroyal to run a BCAA Safety Patrol Program to help ease traffic congestion on Sonora Drive and keep our kids safe. Please review the traffic guidelines:
1. If you have to get out of your car to assist younger students with booster seats, seat belts and/or backpacks please park in a designated parking area so that you do not clog up the drop off/pick up zone.
2. Do not park on the west side of Sonora Dr. and beckon your child to cross the street to get to your car. This is extremely dangerous particularly in dark, inclement weather.
3. Please drive up Sonora Drive and pick up your child in the designated pick-up zone (see traffic flow map below).
4. Do not drop off or pick up in the lower parking lot, the upper parking lot (these areas are staff only parking) or the area in between parking lots in front of the fire hydrant.
5. Do not pull into the driveways of our neighbours to turn your car around.
6. Be careful of pedestrians using the cross walk at top of Sonora Drive.
7. Please ensure that any caregivers and/or family members who drop off/pick up your child are aware of the traffic rules.
8. Use your indicator and always do a shoulder check to ensure it is safe to pull out of drop-off/pick-up zone.
9. Review road safety with your children before school begins.
10. Finally, please SLOW DOWN! The speed limit for school zones is 30km/h from 8am-5pm.
The Traffic Safety program at Montroyal is a joint effort between the School Administration, parent volunteers, and student safety patrollers. This program provides not only a safer place for all of our children during pick-up time at Montroyal, it also provides an opportunity for the student patrollers to learn leadership and teamwork skills, and to develop maturity. We will be looking for grade 5 students at the start of the school year to be trained in our Traffic Program.

We Require Parent Traffic Supervisors for 2014-2015
Parent volunteers support and supervise our student safety patrol team in the student pick-up area in front of Montroyal every day after school, approximately one day per week per parent between 2:50 and 3:20.
Please ensure that you support our Safety Patrol teams for the safety of all of our children. Forms will be coming home during the first week of school or email Carol Sartor if you are interested.
