Week of October 3rd, 2016
October 3-7 Walk and Wheel Week
Montroyal has participated in this international event for over 10 years, it is a school tradition that the students love no matter the weather.
Street Closure - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week Sonora Road at both entry points off Cliffridge Ave will be closed off to traffic from 8:00am until the bell at 8:40, allowing students and staff to reclaim the street to walk.
Events - Each day we have activities and events with grade 7 volunteers as the ring masters
Why - The best way to build a strong school community is to meet people, this event has students having fun with all students no matter grade and parents can join in or talk with each other. School connectedness has positive impacts for students academic performance, mental and physical well-being.
Did you know? Only 9% of Canadian children get the 60 minutes of heart pumping physical activity they need each day. This event shows kids have the energy to walk and play before school.

October 7 Harvest Lunch
A green notice went home on September 30 with details. Students will receive their “family group” assignment on Monday, October 3 and divisions are asked to collect items for the Harvest Project. Boxes will be located in each classroom.
Parking Lot & Traffic
Just a reminder that the parking lots are for staff only, and one spot for the Montroyal Family that won the parking spot at the Parent Gala.
We ask our students to follow the code of conduct
RESPECT • for self, others and property
RESPONSIBILITY • for their own behaviour and work
SAFETY • for self and others
We ask parents to model these behaviours by following the rules of the road and the school to ensure all students are safe.
Last chance to register your student for the school directory (phone book). This is a great resource for connecting with families, arranging playdates, following up on class projects and planning parties.
Please register by October 5th at montroyal.hotlunches.net
Thank you to the grade 5 parents for submitting their yellow authorization forms. We do require more student and parent volunteers to run the program. Please get your yellow forms in to your teacher this week.
MPAC Fund Security
RCMP are investigating the disappearance of significant funds from two Surrey elementary school PAC’s. Please be advised that MPAC reserve funds are invested in guaranteed fixed deposits. MPAC operating funds may only be disbursed by way of cheque, requiring two signatures.
The MPAC has investigated many alternatives to provide more convenience for our parents and less work for our volunteers (like credit card, PayPal and e-banking). Our hope is to find ways to improve parent convenience, but never at the expense of funds we have worked so hard to raise.
If you have any questions please contact PAC Chair.
Choir Class Rep needed!
We now have all divisions filled with the exception of our fabulous musical programs which include our winter/spring performances and choir. Please contact: Jane Alpen for any questions or to volunteer.
Please note that Mrs. Hill will continue choir practices every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. Please be mindful that singing starts at 8am sharp. Thank you.

WOW has been a part of the Montroyal culture for many years as a way to track those children who walk, cycle or scoot to school, and award prizes to the house team with the most points.
House teams have not been assigned for new students, so students who walk or ride to school will be collected and put into a draw each Wednesday afternoon for the month October.
The winner will be announced during the afternoon announcements.
